An essay about the envious superego

This essay consists of an attempt to understand the complex and intriguing psychic dynamics between ego and superego, as well as the internal and external object relations under the aegis of primary envy, revealing the structure of a superego that besides being cruel and tyrannical it is fundamentally envious, and has negative and fundamentally destructive action towards the ego. A psychic functioning based on fixations in the primitive object relation, which hinders the introjection of the good object, prevents the ego-strengthening, the realization of potential subjective resources as well as the enjoyment of the gratifying and healthy relations with its objects. A clinical case illustrates the extent of the narcissistic wound, the deep resentment and the destructive attacks that come into play when envy appears in the analytic relationship, especially the envious superego producing highlighted effects in the transference and countertransference.
