Boredom is an ordinary affect, scarcely considered within psychopathology. An approach to this affect is possible with regard to two main categories that structure the subject and his desire: the “making” (felt as impossible) and time (felt as long). Our research establishes the connection between boredom and daydreaming, which immobilizes the subject and generates mastery in relations, particularly in anorexia. Adolescence is a favorable period for the establishment of boredom as a defense mechanism.
