Is it possible to transmit psychoanalysis in the university?

Abstract

This article refiects on aspects of the 'teaching' and the 'transmission' of psychoanalysis in the university. The transmission in psychoanalysis goes beyond a simple question of teaching, since it refers to the knowledge that comes from a personal clinical experience, in which the transference and the unconscious play a fundamental role. The heart of the problem seems to lie in the confusion of the study of psychoanalysis with the formation of a psychoanalyst. From Freud and contemporary commentators, the author problematizes her experience as a teacher, advisor of psychoanalytic researches and supervisor of Professional Intemship in the undergraduate course in Psychology of a public university, questioning about the psychoanalytic method in the academic setting, the insertion of the student in the field of psychoanalysis and the possibility of its transmission by the teaching work.
